MMSU produces 3 bar passers
Three of the 12 aspiring lawyers from the MMSU College of Law passed the 2015 Bar Examination held in October. They are: Enrique A. Gallardo, Dionne Mae A. Mendoza, and Mervin M. Reyes.
Both Reyes who finished his studies in Summer 2015 and Mendoza who belongs to Batch 2015 are first-time takers. They are from Pinili town and Laoag City, respectively. Gallardo, who hails from Pagudpud, is a retaker from Batch 2014.
MMSU’s 25 percent passing rate is at par with the 26.21 percent national average. Covering eight subjects, the exam was composed of 80 percent essay questions and 20 percent multiple choice questions.
Dr. Prima Fe R. Franco, officer-in-charge, congratulated the passers and hailed the university’s consistently good performance in what is considered as the most prestigious professional examination in the country. Unlike other professional examinations, it is administered by the Supreme Court, not by the Professional Regulation Commision.
MMSU has produced ten lawyers since 2013 when it began fielding bar examinees. There were five passers in 2013 and two in 2014.
Changes in bar exam coverage eyed
According to COL dean Ramon Leaño, the Philippine Association of Law Schools is proposing to reduce bar exam subjects from the current eight to only four.
Most likely, the subject areas will be civil law, remedial law, political law, and legal ethics.
