Eight alumni of Mariano Marcos State University-College of Teacher Education (MMSU-CTE) secured awards in the article writing category during the Global Youth Competition (Batch II) held on October 20.
Hans Euriel Factores, Jenica Macaculop, Angelyn Garcia, and Jan Red Sebastian, of the Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English emerged as champions, with their entry, “Enhancing Learners' Competence in Using Grammatical Signals in Sentence Construction through Nano-based Learning Kit”.
Said entry, which was adapted from their classroom-based action research, investigated the effectiveness of a nano-based learning kit that features concise instructional videos and materials, designed to improve students’ understanding and use of grammatical signals, a critical component in sentence construction.
Meanwhile, graduates of the Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education major in Information and Communication Technology (BTLED-ICT), Ronwell Johnloyd Camacho, Decster Baptista, Rose Ann Ramos, and Jennyrose Laguardia, earned 1st runner-up honors in the same category.
Their article, “Exploring the Technology Inequality in Mariano Marcos State University to Call Action for Equitable Access,” tackled the pressing issue of the digital divide among education students.
To address this challenge, the team proposed two innovative and sustainable solutions, which include the EdukTech Bank, a donation-driven initiative to collect and refurbish gadgets for students in need, and LearnLink, a system providing offline access to learning materials through a local cloud network to ensure continuous learning despite limited internet connectivity.
The competition was arranged by the Faculty of Education at Surabaya State University, to promote awareness on various global education issues. Specifically, the scientific article contest served as a platform for educators to present research works aligned with the theme, "Redefining Education in the Digital Era."
