DOST-1 cites MMSU for efficient S&T jobs
The Department of Science and Technology in Region 1 (DOST-1) has cited MMSU, two organizations it leads, one university committee, and one researcher for their efficient performance in S&T-related activities in Region 1.
The awarding of citations was part of the agency’s activity dubbed as Stakeholders’ Night of the Science Nation Tour in Region 1 held at the Tadena Hall of the University of Northern Philippines in Vigan City on Aug. 31.
The university was recognized for being a consistent partner in the implementation of DOST-1 projects and as a source of experts and logistics in the conduct of DOST activities in Region 1.
Also recognized were the following individuals and groups:
1) Dr. Floramante Pastor, in-charge of MMSU’s bio-organic production project, for being an active member of the Cleaner Production Assessment Team which has contributed to the reduction in wastes of the assessed micro, small and medium enterprises in the region.
2) The Ilocos Norte Science Community (INSC) for being the DOST’s partner science organization in the promotion and advocacy of science and technology in Ilocos Norte. The INSC is involved in the development, rehabilitation, conservation, and wise utilization and management of resources and ecosystem in the province and in the effective conduct of researches and efficient technology transfer activities. The INSC Director is engineer Virgilio Julius P. Manzano.
3) The Ilocos Agriculture and Aquatic Resources Research and Development Consortium (ILAARRDEC) for being a DOST’s partner R&D consortium in the generation of technology for agriculture, forestry, aquaculture, and natural resources in the Ilocos region. Led by MMSU, ILAARRDEC is a consortium of 18 government agencies in Region 1 involved in agricultural and aquaculture research and extension; and
4) The Energy Audit Team of the College of Engineering for contributing much to a more efficient use and management of electricity by audited firms in the province and in the region. The members are engineers Salustiano Morales, Rogelio Binala, Thomas Ubiña, Romaric Ascaño, Nathaniel Mateo, Darrel Pasalo, Edmund Esteban, and Ian Romas. (By Reynaldo E. Andres)
