COE dean represents PH in internat’l climatic change workshop
COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING – Dr. Virgilio Julius P. Manzano Jr., dean here, represented the Philippines in the “First International Workshop on Climatic Changes and their Effects on Agriculture in the Asian Monsoon Region†at the Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment (JGSEE) in King’s Mongkut University of Technology in Bangkok, Thailand on March 3-5.
There, Manzano presented the paper “Weather climate forecasting and assessment of crop water weather relationships using automated field monitoring system (FMS)â€.
The workshop aimed to discuss the implementation of the research project entitled “Climatic Changes and Evaluation of their Effects on Agriculture in the Asian Monsoon Region†under the research framework of Green Network of Excellence for the Japanese fiscal years from 2011 to 2015 supported by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, and Science and Technology. The research project aims to improve reliability of future climate predictions and to develop the information platform which will be useful in designing adaptation and mitigation strategies in agriculture against the predicted climatic changes in the Asian Monsoon Region.
On the last day of the workshop, the participants visited the JGSEE monitoring site in Rathaburi. Manzano’s travel cost was sponsored by the University of Tokyo.
