CASAT launches divers’

THE COLLEGE of Aquatic Sciences and Applied Technology (CASAT) formally launched the Center for Diver Training and Education (CDTE) in a simple program held Jan. 20 at the Currimao campus.

Speaking to an audience composed of university administrators, CASAT faculty members, staff, and students, Mr. Michael Chen, president of the Association of Diving Schools, International (ADSI) in Taiwan, shared his vision of making the CDTE the national center for diving in the country.

During the program, trainees who finished their respective courses were awarded certificates and licenses.  Mr. Wilnorie Rasay, CAS faculty member and scuba instructor of the center, was also conferred a three-star scuba instructor license.

The CDTE, established through MMSU Board Resolution No. 1026, s. 2009, aims to provide the necessary training and equipment for local and foreign individuals interested to develop a career in diving.

The center is a collaborative project of MMSU, ADSI, and the International Technical Divers Federation.  It offers short-term courses for divers’ education from Basic Open Water Diver to Open Water Scuba Instructor, and a Master Instructor Course with fields of specialization in Diving Engineering and Research Diving.
