An assistant professor of the MMSU College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) emerged victorious in a national research poster contest sponsored by the Crop Science Society of the Philippines (CSSP).

Prof. Mae Rose M. Abad of the CAS Department of Biological Sciences bagged first place in the poster competition of the 52nd CSSP Scientific Conference held virtually on August 18-19. Her research poster is titled "Consumer awareness and perception on low glycemic index rice in highly urbanized cities (HUCs) in the Philippines."

Prof. Abad serves as the proponent and project leader of said project funded by the Department of Science and Technology during her stint at the Philippine Rice Research Institute - Batac Branch. Other implementers of the research study are Teodora Mananghaya, Ria Yate, Rheumel Kheem Albano, and Janet Polipo, all PhilRice personnel.

The study determined how consumers are aware of and how they perceive the low glycemic index rice through a baseline survey in 10 HUCs.

Prof. Abad shared her excitement with her first award in a scientific conference, saying she is thankful to the organizers and spectators for recognizing their research study through their poster.

CSSP is a national scientific organization composed of scientists, researchers, and members of the academe. It is organized to promote human welfare through the discovery of knowledge concerning nature, utilization, improvement and interrelationships of plants and their environment, and the people.
