6 CTE profs present posters in national confab
SIX CTE faculty members presented posters in the 60th Annual Convention of the Philippine Association for the Advancement of Science (PhilAAS) held Sept. 13-14 at the Manila Hotel. They were Dr. Eva B. Macugay, Dr. Aris Reynold V. Cajigal, Prof. Aleli R. Martin, Prof. Rose Francis E. Mina, Dr. Jovenita A. Aragon, and Mrs. Lilibeth G. Abrogena. The three posters were: “Perception of climate change among MMSU CTE students: Implications for science teachingâ€, by Macugay, Abrogena, Mina, and Aragon; “Misconceptions of first year students on the concept of climate change†by Macugay, Martin, Mina, and Aragon; and “Exploring the beliefs of preservice secondary science teachers on global climate change†by Cajigal and Tippins.
The convention was a good avenue for sharing their findings and recommendations to scientists, engineers, and educators.
The two-day conference, jointly sponsored by PhilAAS and the Department of Science and Technology, focused on the theme “Global networking to Meet Global Challengesâ€. It included poster presentations and lectures on food security, energy security, biodiversity, and research integrity. Filipino and foreign resource speakers encouraged the participants to take bold steps in pursuing projects and research studies that address present and future global needs. As part of the closing program, new PhilAAS members, including the six CTE teachers, took their oath as members of the professional organization. PhilAAS is a national organization of Filipino scientists, researchers, inventors, professors, and students. It aims to promote public understanding, knowledge, and application of S&T. The CTE paid for the participants’ conference registration. (Aris Reynold V. Cajigal)
