5 programs undergo Level IV accreditation
IN ITS CONSTANT quest for quality and excellence, MMSU subjects five programs for Level IV accreditation by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Aug. 10-14.
Currently undergoing the highest level of AACCUP program accreditation are BS Accountancy, BS Economics, BS Nursing, B Technical Teacher Education, and BS Industrial Technology. The closing program is held this morning, Aug. 14.
The team of prominent accreditors is led by Dr. Manuel T. Corpus, AACCUP executive director, and Dr. Thelma T. Lanuza of Isabela State University, who serves as overall coordinator and also in-charge for the programs in the Batac Campus. Dr. Renelda P. Nacianceno of the Iloilo Science and Technology University is coordinator for the programs in the Laoag campus.
Other members of the accrediting team are: Dr. Leoncio M. Matibag, Southern Luzon State University; Dr. Cherry I. Ultra, University of Eastern Philippines; Dr. Manuel S. Tan, Cagayan State University; Dr. Marylou B. Ong, Cebu Normal University; Dr. Esmen M. Cabal, Dr. Nelson M. Nacana, Dr. Emma C. Ventura, and Prof. Franco D. Nero – all from Ramon Magsaysay Technological University; Dr. Reermeline B. Plamo, Nueva Vizcaya State University; Dr. Estrella E. Yago, Philippine State College of Aeronautics; Dr. Emerlita S. Naguiat, Bulacan State University; Dr. Ariel M. Plantilla, University of Rizal System; and Dr. Celerino S. Palacio, Bicol University.
During the opening program, Dr. Prima Fe R. Franco, MMSU officer-in-charge, underscored the university’s commitment to quality assurance and vowed to make accreditation as a way of life.
While stressing the high standards and requirements set for Level IV accreditation, Dr. Corpus said the accreditors will be good to MMSU. By “being good” he clarified that they will give the highest rating of 5 if it is deserved, in the same manner that they will give the lowest score of 1 if warranted. As in previous occasions, Dr. Corpus, former president of DMMMSU, showered MMSU with praises. “If I will be asked to name the top five SUCs in terms of accreditation, MMSU will certainly be in the list,” he said, adding that while there was initially no available schedule, AACCUP made a way to accommodate MMSU’s request for a Level IV survey.
MMSU is the first SUC to attain institutional accreditation under the outcomes-based accreditation instrument. The university’s accreditation activities are coordinated by engineer Ami Ruth R. Cocson, director for planning and quality assurance. (By Herdy La. Yumul)
