3 magna cum laude graduates lead Class of 2012

Threemagna cum laude graduates lead 1,690 graduates in the university’s 34th commencement exercises held today, April 2, atthe MMSU Sunken Garden. His Excellency Harry K. Thomas Jr., ambassador of theUnited States of America to the Philippines, is guest of honor and speaker. Heis represented by Ms. Robin D. Diallo, public affairs officer of the embassy.

 Breakdown of graduates

 Ofthe 1,690 graduates this year, the biggest number (406 or 24.02%) come from theCollege of Business, Economics, and Accountancy (CBEA) which has the higheststudent enrolment.

 Thecollege with the second biggest number of graduates is the College HealthSciences with 380 (22.48%). This is followed by the College of TeacherEducation (CTE) with 280 (16.56%); College of Industrial Technology, 221(13.07%); College of Engineering, 162 (9.58); College of Arts and Sciences(CAS), 102 (6.03%); College of Agriculture, Food, and Sustainable Development,80 (4.73%); and Graduate School, 39 (2.30%). With the least number of graduatesis the College of Aquatic Sciences and Applied Technology with 20 (1.18%).

 Asin previous years, the nursing program holds the distinction of having the mostnumber of graduates with 250. This is followed by: industrial technology with166; elementary education, 160; secondary education, 120; and managementaccounting, 126. The least number of graduates come from the sociology, agriculturalengineering, and home technology programs, each with one graduate.

 Top graduates

 KrisdionneJureya F. Cabading of the BS in Accountancy program of CBEA leads MMSU Class of2011. She obtained a general weighted average (GWA) of 1.31430. A resident ofBadoc, Ilocos Norte, she is the daughter of Mr. Julio R. Cabading, who is withthe university’s Physical Plant and General Services Division, and the formerRosalyn Fernandez, a teacher at the Juan Luna Memorial Academy in Badoc. He iseldest sister to Jude Patrick, a first year BS Secondary Education sudent atCTE, and Jerick Andrew, a first year high school student at Juan Luna MemorialAcademy in Badoc. 

 Cabadinggraduated with distinction at the MMSU Laboratory High School (ScienceCurriculum) in 2008 and at the Badoc North Central School as valedictorian in2004. In college, she was an officer of the Junior Philippine Institute ofAccountants and member of the Students in Free Enterprise. She intends to workat the Sycip, Gorres, and Velayo accounting firm upon passing the board.Pursuing graduate studies is also in her plans.

 NormanRay Macadangdang of the BS Secondary Education program of CTE comes second inrank with a GWA of 1.42016. He is under the stewardship of Mr. and Mrs. IsmaelSales Jr. of Bacarra, Ilocos Norte. An English major, he was actively involvedwith communication-related organizations. He migrated to Hawaii right after hedefended his undergraduate paper and could not join today’s graduation rites.

 Witha GWA of 1.4309, Reindel Owen Salvador, a sociology major from CAS, is third inthe prestigious roster of top graduates. A native of Piddig, Ilocos Norte, hisfather Ernesto is a bus driver at the Maria de Leon Bus Trans while his motherDelia is chief nurse at the Piddig District Hospital. He is the second of threesiblings. His older brother Erdenielle is a registered nurse while younger Ma.Khaye Anne is a first year A.B. English Studies student at CAS.

 Theoutgoing president of the Central Student Council, Salvador has represented theuniversity and the country in various international conferences andcompetitions. As president of the Students in Free Enterprise, he steered TeamMMSU to a national championship and donned the country’s colors in the 2010SIFE World Cup. He plans to either take up law or enroll in a master’s programand teach.
