1st semester enrolment drops to 11,672
FROM A total enrolment of 15,116 students last year in all levels, the Office of the University Registrar registered only 11,672 students this first semester of AY 2016 – 2017. Of this number, 10,089 are in the degree programs, 365 in the graduate school (GS), 76 in the short term programs, and 1,142 in the laboratory schools.
The 25.18 percent decrease of enrolment in the degree programs from last year’s figure of 13, 846 results from the implementation of the government’s K-12.
Among all the colleges, COE posted the highest enrolment increase of 2,207, which is 22.39 percent lower than lasts year’s 2,844. This was followed by CBEA which has 2,144 enrollees this semester as compared with last year’s 2,972, or a decrease of 7.67 percent. CAFSD which had 1,878 enrollees last year in all levels now has only 1,364 students, or a decrease of 27.36 percent.
On the other hand, CIT, which posted an enrolment of 1,700 in the first semester of 2015, has only 1,233 this year or a decrease of 27.47 percent.
In contrast, CTE’s short-term program is still enjoying an enrolment increase of 64.47 percent. From last year’s figure of 27 enrollees, it now has 76 students in all programs. Other colleges and units which have decreases in their enrolments are CASAT, CAS, CHS, and CTE.
On the other hand, both the COL and COM gained enrolment this year with the COL having 65 students this year is all levels as compared with last year’s 59 students. The COM also now has 43 students, or an increase of 58.13 percent from last year’s enrolment of 18 students.
Also, CTE has an overall slight decrease of enrolment this year. From 873 and 676 in its BEE and BSE programs, it went down to 641 and 491, respectively. CAS and CHS enrolment figures also went down to 19.84 and 25.61 percent decrease, respectively. (By Reynaldo E. Andres)
