Vision
A center that propagates healthy partnership of men and women – one that values mutual respect, consensual dialogues, and the sharing of public and private responsibilities geared toward excellence and leadership.
Mission
To institutionalize policies and programs that are responsive to gender, poverty, and human rights issues through instruction, research, and extension services, establishing the necessary institutional mechanism that make all units of MMSU a high performance workplace.
Center Objectives & Goals
Goals
- To mainstream gender and development, poverty, and human rights issues through instruction, research, and extension activities across all disciplines.
- To create awareness on gender, poverty, and human rights issues in the various programs of the University.
- To establish a repository for gender related research publications, extension materials, and other forms of literature on gender and development.
- To help provide women more access to knowledge resources and networks enabling them to participate actively and effectively in decision making both in the home and in the community.
- To institutionalize celebrations and successes in gender equality, empowerment of women, poverty alleviation, and human right concerns.
Objectives
- Encourage the integration of gender and development issues in relevant courses across disciplines and provide logistic support for the effort related to this activity.
- Encourage faculty members from the eight colleges and other institutions in the region to develop research proposals and extension programs on gender and development.
- Endorse gender related proposals to the University for funding from all possible sources.
- Disseminate information, news, and literature about gender and development in a quarterly newsletter.
- Organize awareness and sensitivity trainings and seminars on gender, poverty, and human rights issues.
- Review the GAD plans, instructional, and extension modules of all units of the university.
- Identify, evaluate, and endorse for awards or recognition of university personnel and offices that exhibit exemplary gender sensitivity.
- Organize and conduct seminars to raise the level of awareness of the university and the community about gender issues, poverty, and human rights.
- Recognize individuals and/or projects that can be considered successes in tackling gender prejudice and discrimination, poverty, and human rights violations.
- Conducts regular meetings of all GAD coordinators in the university.
- Lead the university in the celebration of Women’s month in March every year.
