The local radio station 91.1 FM Radyo Karruba is set for modernization as MMSU, through its Electronics Engineering (ECE) Department, and the LGU of Burgos launched the ProCEDEE Program: Technical Assistance on December 11 through a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA).

The upgrading will cover the radio station's management and operations, aiming to enhance its technical capabilities and ensure reliable, efficient communication systems that support local needs and emergency services. Additionally, MMSU-ECE will assist in preparing the station's engineering plans.

Present at the signing ceremony were MMSU OIC-President Prima Fe R.Franco, Vice President for Research, Development, and Innovation Nathaniel Alibuyog, Burgos Mayor Crescente Garcia, Municipal Engineer Minerva Pascua, Electronics Chief Wilson Duldulao, ECE Chair Lawrence John Tagata, Engr. Ma. Fregie Gaile Blancaflor, Engr. Julie Ailene Garcia, and Engr. Christian Philip Austria, Human Resource Chief and Station Manager Gerson Ravelo, and Radio Technician Zharbie Curimao.

“This initiative will enable us to share our technological expertise and maximize the station as a tool for communication, community service, and sustainable development,” Dr. Franco expressed. She further emphasized that the enhanced radio station will play an important role in creating informed and resilient communities in Burgos and its neighboring areas.

Meanwhile, Mayor Garcia also expressed gratitude for the partnership, pointing out the importance of strengthening local governance and community engagement. “Our municipality was chosen by the National Nutrition Council to launch this program and we are grateful to continue our partnership with MMSU on community initiatives like this,” he said.

MMSU-ECE Chair Tagata also explained the importance of rehabilitating and upgrading the community radio station, using the department's knowledge and expertise to make it more efficient in reaching a wider audience. Some locals have previously partnered with and benefited from MMSU's School on the Air program.

The project is expected to be completed in phases, with measurable improvements in programming quality and operational efficiency anticipated in the coming months. Engr. Duldulao shared that MMSU has already conducted preliminary site surveys and inspections in October and the team will continue to collect data needed as the radio station will be on test broadcast.

This collaboration supports MMSU’s ACHIEVE agenda, focusing on impactful extension services and community projects. By utilizing Radyo Karruba, the partnership aims to address the region's information and communication needs.
