Fabrication Laboratory (Fab Lab)

The MMSU Fabrication Laboratory (FabLab), established through the Department of Trade and Industry’s Shared Service Facilities (SSF) Project, is a center for innovation and technology-based development. It is equipped with modern tools and equipment to support product design, rapid prototyping, and production services aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and strengthening local industries. Committed to research and innovation, the FabLab develops IoT-based technologies, tools, and machinery tailored to the needs of farmers, MSMEs, and communities. It also offers intensive training and workshops on equipment operation, maintenance, and digital fabrication processes. Users are continuously guided by MMSU faculty, students, and industry consultants to ensure optimal use of technologies and promote sustainable innovation.

Mission

The MMSU Fab-Lab abide by its sworn responsibilities through

  • relentless pursuit of knowledge and research to develop tools, equipment, machineries, and IOT-based technologies to boost agricultural productivity and competitiveness of local products.
  • provision of intensive training and workshops that will promote enthusiasm in advancing knowledge in the fields of engineering, science and technology, proper handling, operating, & maintenance of equipment and machineries; and
  • continuous guidance from student, faculty, and industry FabLab consultants to its users and beneficiaries to ensure that the benefits of the current and future technologies are harnessed to the fullest for the betterment of the society.


 

Services Offerred

  1. Product Design and Development - provides assistance in conceptualizing, designing, and refining products tailored to client specifications. Services include 2D/3D design, CAD modeling, and customized product development to ensure functionality, innovation, and market readiness.
  2. Rapid Prototyping Services - utilizes advanced digital fabrication tools such as 3D scanners, 3D printers, laser cutting and engraving machines, CNC milling machines, and related equipment to produce prototypes quickly, accurately, and cost-effectively.
  3. Equipment Access and Rental - offers rental or shared use of modern fabrication equipment and tools, giving MSMEs, startups, researchers, and innovators affordable access to cutting-edge technologies for product development and small-scale production.
  4. Training and Capacity Building - conducts workshops, hands-on sessions, and technical demonstrations to promote knowledge and skills in engineering, science, and technology. Training covers design software, digital fabrication, and proper handling, operation, and maintenance of equipment and machinery.
  5. Technical Consultation and Mentorship - provides expert guidance from faculty members, technical staff, and industry partners on design optimization, prototyping, product improvement, and technology applications. One-on-one mentoring is available to support innovators and entrepreneurs at different stages of development.
  6. Research and Development Support - collaborates with faculty, students, and external partners on R&D projects focused on innovative machinery, agricultural tools, IoT-based solutions, and community-driven technologies, contributing to both academic advancement and industry needs.
  7. Technology Transfer and Commercialization Support - assists innovators and entrepreneurs in advancing products from prototype to market-ready stage. Support includes product testing, refinement, packaging design, and guidance on intellectual property, branding, and commercialization strategies.
  8. Design and Printing Services - provides high-quality design and printing solutions for tarpaulins, stickers, labels, signage, and promotional materials. Equipped with UV printers and other digital printing technologies, the FabLab ensures durable, professional, and vibrant outputs tailored for business, academic, and community needs.
