The Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) celebrated its 48th foundation anniversary with the theme “CASucceed!” at Teatro Ilocandia on April 15, reflecting on its development through the years while looking ahead to its future direction.
The college started the celebration with the blessing of the student nooks led by CAS alumni association. This was followed by a Thanksgiving service which was held before the main program, setting a tone of gratitude for the celebration.
CAS College Secretary Michelle Reynera welcomed the participants on behalf of the college, describing CAS’s growth and achievements over the years.
Vice President for Academic Affairs Aris Reynold Cajigal, speaking on behalf of MMSU President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano Jr., underscored the college’s contribution to the university’s overall success.
“In these 48 years, your contributions have been nothing short of remarkable. You have produced excellence that resonates far beyond the walls of the university,” he said.
He also emphasized that the college’s legacy is marked by both growth and innovation.
“Your role may often be behind the scenes, but your impact is always at the forefront of our success,” he added.
CAS Dean Marlina Lino expressed gratitude to the college community in her leadership address, where she reported on the college’s status, accomplishments, awards, initiatives, and support services over the past year.
“We look forward to succeeding in all our future endeavors with the university's core values in mind: wisdom, innovation, stewardship, excellence, and resilience,” Lino said.
Meanwhile, CASikat lecturer Dr. Aira Cassandra Castro Agra, a topnotcher of the March 2023 Physician Licensure Examination and BS Biology alumna, shared her journey of overcoming challenges, setbacks, and external pressures in her career.
“Real excellence is not about being the best on paper. It’s about becoming someone you can live with,” she said, emphasizing that failure is an essential part of success and personal growth.
