In a first since its establishment in 2022, the MMSU College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) has sent five of its students to the Universitas Brawijaya in Malang City, East Java, Indonesia, for an International Summer Course from April 1 to 13.
Third-year veterinary medicine students Nielle Meldriz Bagaoisan, Shamira Linette Baltazar, William Martine Calalang, Ma. Angelica Dacuag, and Franceene Shaira Palalay are the first students to represent the CVM in the 13-day international learning exchange. While in Indonesia, they will engage in an intensive immersion in both laboratory technologies and field visits to key institutions in the country.
Dr. Melvin Bagot, Dean of the CVM, said he is pleased with the historic milestone for the college. โI am very pleased that our first cohort of students is now participating in international engagements. This milestone reflects the success of our partnership with Brawijaya University. I am deeply grateful to the CVM faculty for their dedication in making this partnership a reality, as well as to the administration of Mariano Marcos State University for their strong support,โ Dr. Bagot remarked.
Themed, โReproductive Biotechnology for Sustainable Breeding: From Farm Animals to Wildlife Conservation,โ the international program brings together select veterinary students from various veterinary medicine institutions in the Philippines and Indonesia for academic lectures and laboratory and field-based learning.
By supporting opportunities like this, the university enables its students to expand their horizons, build international connections, and be at par with the advancements of veterinary science and conservation efforts worldwide.
Now in its fourth academic year, the CVM continues to expand its reach and engagements in fulfillment of its mandate to focus on programs and priorities of the university and the region that develop the field of veterinary medicine.
