Students currently enrolled in the four-course program Physical Activities Towards Health and Fitness (PATHFit) participated in “Tignay,” the culminating activity of the course, held across the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) Batac Campus on April 28.
Students taking up PATHFit 2 joined in the Amazing Race and Pathfitness Dance, while select PATHFit 4 students competed in inter-class tournaments of arnis, badminton, pickleball, and table tennis. Other PATHFit 4 students also took part in the dance events, including cheer dance and social or ballroom dance, while others served as volunteers.
Organized by the students through the PATHFit Society, the activity aimed to promote movement and fitness among the studentry by applying what they have learned from the course.
“The goal of the activity is for students to apply what they have learned from this subject,” said Prof. Joselito Custodio, Chair of the College of Arts and Sciences - Department of Physical Education.
In his speech, Vice President for Academic Affairs Aris Reynold Cajigal reminded the students that progress begins with movement, reflecting the theme, “Tignay.”
“Change starts when we decide to act, and that growth happens when we refuse to remain still. So, when something needs to be done, agtignaytay’ a dagos (we act on it with urgency),” Dr. Cajigal said. He also encouraged everyone to stay active and build habits that strengthen the body and mind.
Despite the hot weather, participants remained actively engaged and expressed their enthusiasm throughout the event.
For first-year student Louisvien Marcos, the heat and exhaustion were all worth it. “I had a lot of fun, especially during the Amazing Race. The activities felt surprisingly nostalgic. Joining in made me feel like a kid again, sweating and playing under the sun,” Marcos shared.
