Students from the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) planted nearly 500 mangrove propagules at the Mangrove Plantation Site in Currimao, as part of the university’s Earth Month activities.

Threading through the coasts of Maglaoi Sur on April 12, student leaders who participated in Project Brave, Understanding, Knowledge, and Empowered Leaders (BUKEL) 6.2 conducted a mangrove planting activity as part of their leadership camp.

Meanwhile, on April 16, fourth-year tourism students  carried out a similar initiative through a mangrove planting and coastal clean-up drive for their AgriTour 2026.

Director for Sustainability and Futures Thinking Arlene Gonzales, shared that the two tree planting activities showed the importance of protecting coastal ecosystems.

“By planting these seedlings, we are able to support marine life and we are able to provide protection for it,” she said.

Through these activities, MMSU continues to promote environmental stewardship and action among students.
