Chinese Consulate gives face masks to MMSU

The Consulate of People’s Republic of China in Laoag gave 1,000 pieces of medical face masks to the Mariano Marcos State University today.

This morning, Consul Chen Jing turned over the surgical and disposable masks to Dr. Mee Jay A. Domingo, director for the university’s external linkages and partnerships.

Chen hoped that the face masks could help the skeleton workforce in MMSU to stay protected. She also added that with the anticipated re-opening of classes once the Luzon-wide Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) is lifted, the face masks could be used for precautionary measures.

MMSU President Shirley C. Agrupis extended her gratitude to the consulate. “This goes to show that our partnership goes beyond faculty and student exchanges and scholarships, it is all about promoting humanity,” Agrupis said.

With the low supply of face masks in the market, MMSU started to produce improvised face masks out of table napkins and garter which are being distributed to MMSU and community frontliners.

MMSU and the Chinese Consulate in Laoag started the partnership years ago which opened for academic opportunities to the University in China. Also, MMSU has started to participate in various events of the Consulate and the People’s Republic of China, in general, as a showcase of camaraderie and friendship.

“We hope to further uphold the healthy partnership, with or without crisis,” Domingo expressed. (StratCom)
