PhilHealth R1 visits MMSU for YAKAP accreditation
By Ian Paul Villanueva
Officials of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) Region 1 visited the MMSU Primary Care Facility (PCF) and paid a courtesy visit to the MMSU Office of the President on May 13 as part of the university’s ongoing accreditation for the agency’s Yaman ng Kalusugan Program (YAKAP).
Philippine Health Insurance Corporation Region 1 Medical Specialist III Dr. Neil Alvin Tandoc led the delegation, together with Eduardo Dularte, Chief Social Insurance Officer, and Ms. Kristine Mae Joanne Silao, Accreditation Designate, of the Local Health Insurance Office-Ilocos Norte.
Vice President for Academic Affairs Aris Reynold Cajigal and Dr. Mayla Veronica Madrigal, Chief of the MMSU PCF, welcomed the visitors. Their discussions focused on the university’s ongoing application for accreditation as a PhilHealth YAKAP Provider.
YAKAP is a PhilHealth initiative that supports the implementation of the Universal Health Care Act by enabling healthcare facilities to offer a broader range of health services. Through the program, accredited facilities may provide comprehensive primary care services such as health risk assessment, preventive care, consultations, selected diagnostic services, health education, and continuity of care.
Once accredited as a PhilHealth YAKAP Provider, the MMSU PCF will be able to provide outpatient healthcare services under the enhanced primary care benefit packages to members of the university community enrolled with the facility.
The anticipated accreditation is expected to strengthen primary care within the university setting, promote the health and well-being of students and personnel, and contribute to improved population health outcomes in the region.
