Two fourth-year students of the MMSU College of Teacher Education ranked 2nd in different categories of the 2026 International Day of English, organized by FKIP Universitas Sriwijaya of Indonesia on April 23 via Zoom. The event aims to showcase the excellence of various institutions worldwide in English language and literary studies.

In the Creative Writing category, Secondary Education major in English student Mark Lauren Ramos wrote an essay titled “Filipino Resiliency: Safeguarding Learning in a Climate-Vulnerable Nation.” His essay discussed the importance of education and more resilient systems to address climate change.

Meanwhile, in the Literary Appreciation and Reader Response category, Jherly Helaena Valencia, another Secondary Education major in English student, analyzed “The Paradox of Praise: Redefining Love and Beauty in Sonnet 130.” She examined how William Shakespeare challenged common expressions of love by rejecting exaggerated ideals of beauty.

Mentored by Prof. Jeanette Dials and Prof. Abril Ryan Dacanay, Ramos and Valencia’s win adds to MMSU CTE’s growing list of achievements over the years.
