Ilokano social media influencers Ms. Izabelle Beltran, Ms. Sweet Haven Calina, and Ms. Adha Stone conducted a lecture for students on creating relatable and impactful online content during the “Content Creation 101: A Creative Masterclass” held at the MMSU American Corner on April 29.
Organized by the MMSU College of Business, Economics, and Accountancy (CBEA) Student Council and the Junior Marketing Advocates, the event was attended by students, faculty, and staff.
Standing in for CBEA OIC-Dean Emil James Tanagon, CBEA Student Council President and incoming USC Chairperson Danniel Corales, welcomed the participants and expressed optimism that the activity would help students become strategic marketers in the future.
“By mastering the digital tools showcased today, you will be able to positively position brands, influence consumer behavior, and drive economic growth in the future,” Corales said.
For the first lecture, Ms. Beltran discussed “What’s Your Niche? Building Content Around Who You Are.” She advised students to remain authentic so that they can find their niche for their online content.
“To find the right niche for your content, be true to yourself. That is the only way for you to thrive and succeed in the content creation industry,” she encouraged.
Meanwhile, Ms. Calina spoke on “The ‘Lokal’ Touch: How Staying True to Your Roots Grows Your Digital Presence.” For her, content creation is not about imitation but originality.
“The moment I stopped trying to sound like everyone else on TikTok, that’s when people started to know and follow me and appreciate my content,” she said.
Lastly, Ms. Stone discussed “Creating Content that Clicks: Using Humor to Connect, Engage, and Go Viral.” For her, connecting with one’s audiences matters more than numbers.
“Don’t just create content for the sake of posting something online. Create moments that people can relate to and would want to share,” she advised.
Aside from the lectures, a vlogging competition was held during the afternoon session, in which participants applied what they had learned and showcased their creativity.
CBEA’s first “Content Creation 101: A Creative Masterclass” aims to equip students with the skills to produce effective social media content for brands and organizations.
