To provide valuable international exposure for its students, the MMSU College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) has deployed its second cohort of veterinary medicine students to Universitas Brawijaya (UB) in Malang City, Indonesia, for the Brawijaya International Student Mobility Awards (BISMA) from April 12 to 19.
Third-year veterinary medicine students Brenda Gayle Bayani, Jorryn Wayne Repato, Angela Lorenzo, Reo Shannon Rangcapan, Angelo Jay Pedro, and John Cyruz Portugal composed the MMSU delegation.
The delegates engaged in hands-on immersion in different veterinary laboratories for anatomy, internal medicine, surgery, radiology, and embryology. Their immersion also included visits to the leading Indonesian artificial insemination center, Balai Besar Inseminasi Buatan (BBIB) Singosari, the Technical Implementation Unit for Livestock Breeding and Forage (UPT PT & HMT) Batu, and Indonesia Safari Park II Prigen.
For Rangcapan, his experience at BISMA gave him insights into his future practice of the veterinary medicine profession. β€œThis experience will definitely expand my knowledge of veterinary medicine beyond the Philippine setting. I think it will enhance my capability, especially in real-world practice,” he shared.
The six MMSU students are among fifteen who qualified in the BISMA from the Philippines, Vietnam, Japan, and Thailand. They were accompanied by Dr. Mark Stephen Ballog, CVM faculty.
The successful immersion of the students at UB follows the deployment of CVM’s first cohort of students to UB in early April for the International Summer Course, also in Malang City, Indonesia. Both engagements were done pursuant to a formalized partnership between MMSU and UB.
