Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) officially welcomed its first Department of Science and Technology–Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) Career Incentive Program (CIP) fellow, Mr. Mc Harold V. Peña, on February 5.
As the first recipient of the fellowship at MMSU, he will be assigned to the Metabolomics Project on Garlic under the Center for Cellular and Molecular Medical Research (CMED). His work will focus on advancing research activities in metabolomics and bioinformatics, key areas that support the MMSU’s strategic thrust in molecular and life sciences.
In his role, Mr. Peña will assist with conducting laboratory experiments, processing and analyzing data, and preparing research outputs for publication. He will also contribute to the development and writing of research proposals to secure external funding that will strengthen MMSU’s research pipeline.
Meanwhile, Mr. Peña shared his research plans and aspirations during discussions with MMSU President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano, Jr. Dr. Manzano expressed his hopes for Mr. Peña’s meaningful integration into the university’s research ecosystem. “May this fellowship strengthen MMSU’s capacity for high-impact scientific research and mentoring emerging scholars in our university,” he said.
This collaboration shows MMSU’s shared dedication with DOST-SEI to nurturing the next generation of researchers and reinforcing the university’s capacity in scientific fields such as molecular science, metabolomics, and bioinformatics.
