Cyclists unite for MMSU’s first ‘Bike for a Cause’ event
By Ian Paul Villanueva
More than a hundred cyclists set out for an early bike ride around Paoay and the City of Batac as part of the MMSU Cycling Club’s first-ever Bike for a Cause event, held early morning on Saturday, February 7.
The participants took part in a quick Zumba session and a briefing by Club President Ericson Agcaoili before heading out at 5:30 a.m.
The pack of cyclists, led by MMSU President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano, Jr., covered a distance of about 25 kilometers, cycling past Paoay Church, Bellagio Hills, and Barangay Sungadan in Paoay, and Barangay Baay in the City of Batac, before looping back to the FEM Hall.
The top five (5) finishers were awarded medals and cash prizes—PhP1,500 for 1st place, PhP1000 for 2nd place, PhP750 for 3rd place, and PhP500 each for 4th and 5th place. The awardees were sorted into three (3) categories: Women (open category), Men (39 years old and below), and Men (40 years old and above).
Mr. Agcaoili explained that the Bike for a Cause is only the first of many such events.
In holding its Bike for a Cause event, the club promotes its advocacy for improving biking facilities in MMSU and creating a cyclist-friendly campus. The proceeds from the event will be used to purchase materials for proposed bike parking and bike repair tool stands at the university.
Interested participants may follow the club’s official Facebook page, MMSU Cycling Club, for announcements on future events and registration details.
