Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) hosted the 3rd Global Conference on Teacher Education, Research, and Innovation (GCTERI) virtually, drawing educators and researchers from 51 universities in various countries from April 28 to 30.
On the first day of the conference, keynote speaker Dr. Uttam Gaulee of Morgan State University, USA, discussed global academic mobility and the future of teacher education. This was followed by a panel discussion focused on promoting innovations for global impact.
On the second day, keynote speaker Prof. Anteneh Firkie of Blue Hora University, Ethiopia, delivered a presentation on international collaboration in developing research ecosystems. Speakers throughout the day emphasized their commitment to advancing innovative and inclusive practices in teacher education and research through global dialogue.
On the third day, keynote speaker Dr. Rajan Sharma of Chandigarh University, India, discussed strategies for sustainable internationalization to strengthen global partnerships in higher education. The session covered the importance of moving beyond traditional mobility programs and promoting long-term, sustainable global research collaborations.
Throughout the three-day conference, participants from various institutions and countries exchanged strategies and insights aimed at advancing teacher education and research on a global scale.
Meanwhile, Commission on Higher Education Chairperson Shirley C. Agrupis served as the guest of honor and speaker for the event. In her message, she commended the university for its clear direction in advancing higher education through its global partnerships.
“We continue to strengthen teacher education by enhancing teacher preparation programs, investing in faculty development and in upskilling, supporting research that informs practice and policy, and expanding international collaboration,” Dr. Agrupis said.
She further encouraged the institutions to converge and collaborate. “The strength of our education system lies in the ability to converge, to work together across disciplines and across borders in pursuit of our shared goals,” she added.
MMSU President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano, Jr., conveyed his commitment to collaborate with the global partners of MMSU to improve the quality of education, research, and innovation of the university.
“As part of our SUCCEED agenda, we aim for international and interdisciplinary collaboration to contribute to a more inclusive and globally responsive higher education,” he said.
Dr. Manzano also mentioned that papers submitted for the conference will be considered for publication in the MMSU Science and Technology Journal, while participants who attended all sessions will be eligible to receive 12 CPD credits.
The GCTERI coordinators, Dr. Mark Joseph Pastor and Dr. Romelyn Lagura, shared their interest to work with the participating institutions, educators, and researchers during their talk on global teacher education and research.
Dr. Pastor said the conference had already created partnerships that could lead to improved teaching practices and future academic collaborations beyond the three-day event. Meanwhile, Dr. Lagura said the discussions and insights from the conference would help educators develop more innovative and effective classroom instruction while strengthening global academic connections.
With the theme, “Convergence for Excellence: Integrating Teacher Education, Research, and Global Engagement,” the conference provided a platform for researchers from the academe to share best practices in their institutions.
