The Mariano Marcos State University - College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) and the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC at MMSU) sealed a partnership to promote animal health and welfare through a memorandum of agreement (MOA) signed on January 16.
Specifically, the partnership establishes a collaboration for herd health management, disease surveillance and control, post-mortem examinations (necropsy), and emergency response. This will provide timely information on common animal diseases in the region, especially during outbreaks.
Aside from this, the partnership also provides a platform for veterinary students to conduct research and internships at PCC’s institutional farm, equipping students with facilities and experience in areas such as animal disease diagnosis and treatment, and biosecurity protocols.
During the signing, PCC Director Joel Cabading expressed the center’s support by opening PCC facilities and animals for academic and research use, and by inviting CVM faculty and students to participate in extension activities benefiting farmers and cooperatives in Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, Abra, and Cagayan.
Meanwhile, CVM Dean Melvin Bagot, representing MMSU President Virigilio Julius P. Manzano, Jr., expressed the university’s commitment to collaborative research initiatives that will enhance PCC operations and extension services.
The new partnership is part of MMSU’s goal to advance veterinary education and strengthen support for the livestock sector in Northern Philippines.
