Charles Adrian Fruelda, a first-year Civil Engineering student of Mariano Marcos State University–College of Engineering (MMSU-COE), is set to compete in the national finals of the 29th Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) after emerging as champion in the regional elimination held on November 6 at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, San Fernando City, La Union.
As the regional winner, Fruelda will represent Region I in the PSQ National Finals scheduled on December 10.
Joining him in the regional competition was fellow first-year Civil Engineering student Ezekiel Arellano, who secured second place. Both Fruelda and Arellano earlier claimed the top two spots in the provincial elimination held on October 17, earning them the opportunity to represent Ilocos Norte in the regional round.
The MMSU contenders were among twelve regional finalists who vied for the championship title. They were mentored by Prof. Liliwa Olalo and Engr. Jonas Paul de la Cruz.
Organized annually by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) as part of the National Statistics Month celebration, the PSQ aims to assess the statistical proficiency of college freshmen, promote awareness of the importance of statistics, and foster appreciation of its role in national and community development.
