MMSU VetMed undergoes first PRB evaluation

The MMSU College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) underwent its first inspection and monitoring visit by the Philippine Regulatory Board (PRB) for Veterinary Medicine on May 19.
As a newly established program, the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) was evaluated to ensure compliance with the standards and requirements set by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and to confirm the continuous delivery of quality veterinary education.
CVM Dean Melvin Bagot expressed gratitude to the PRB team for the visit and guidance, saying it helps the program strengthen its systems and improve its academic delivery.
He added that the inspection helped identify both strengths and areas that still need improvement, giving the program a clearer direction for continued development.
During the visit, the PRB assessed facilities, academic delivery, faculty qualifications, operations, and learning resources. They also reviewed documents and toured key areas such as faculty offices, surgery room, clinics, wet laboratory, anatomy laboratory, and the ATI building.
The team also interviewed a third-year veterinary medicine student, Reo Shannon Rangcapan, who previously joined an inbound student program at Universitas Brawijaya in Indonesia. He shared his international experience and compared learning environments between institutions.
Rangcapan acknowledged areas for improvement but noted the program’s progress. He said that despite being a young program, Veterinary Medicine is steadily developing and showing strong potential.
The DVM's first evaluation by the PRB demonstrates its adherence to quality education while identifying areas for improvement. As the only institution in the province offering a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program, it continues to evolve in alignment with educational benchmarks, focusing on animal health, public health, and food security.
