Student org stages presidential forum

Aiming to educate students on political issues, and to allow them to make informed choices, the Sociology Guild has organized a Presidential Forum Series involving the contenders in the May 2010 Elections.

Invited to the forum are the top three presidentiables based on the results of the university-wide Mock Presidential Election conducted by the guild last December.

In order to have an in-depth knowledge of their respective Platforms of Government and Leadership Agenda, the organizers are inviting the candidates one at a time. Secretary Gilbert \"Gibo\" Teodoro, standard bearer of Lakas-Kampi-CMD, has already confirmed his participation and will attend a forum to be held at the MMSU Teatro Ilocandia on February 3, 8:30 a.m. Senators Manuel Villar of the Nacionalista Party and Benigno Aquino, Jr. of the Liberal Party had also been invited to come over on other dates.

All students taking up Social Sciences subjects, and all student leaders of all student councils, clubs, and organizations are expected to attend the event.

Alwyn Bartolome, Sociology Guild president, hopes that \"the forum will provide an avenue for enlightened discussion of issues relevant to the choice of the country’s next leadership.\"

The results of the mock survey participated in by 1,946 students in the Batac, Currimao, and Laoag campuses are as follows: 1. Manny Villar (56.94), 2. Gibo Teodoro (15.45), 3. Noynoy Aquino (15.4), 4. Joseph Estrada (6.74), 5. Eddie Villanueva (2.68), 6. Richard Gordon (0.71), 7. Jamby Madrigal (0.46), 8. JC Delos Reyes (0.10), and 9. Nicanor Perlas (0.10).
