
MMSU joins Huawei Connect 2023 in Shanghai, China

Three faculty members and one staff of the Information Technology Center of the Mariano Marcos State University - College of Computing and Information Sciences (CCIS) participated in the Huawei Connect 2023 at the Shanghai Expo Center and Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center on September 20-22.
Joining over 20,000 business leaders, tech experts, partners, developers, and industry stakeholders from around the world, the MMSU team was one of few Philippine schools invited to the event. The group was composed of Dr. Saturnina Nisperos, college dean; Prof. Wilben Christie Pagtaconan, director of the MMSU Information and Technology Center; Mr. Ralf Dela Cruz, CCIS secretary; and, Mr. Arman Barruga, ITC network administration chief.
The three-day event covered topics on business, industry, and ecosystem strategies. Sabrina Meng, deputy chairperson, rotating chairperson, and CFO of Huawei, shared the company’s efforts in building All Intelligence strategies and solid AI models and applications.
David Wang, executive board director, chair of the ICT Infrastructure Managing Board, and president of Huawei’s Enterprise BG, led the launch of Huawei’s new Atlas 900 SuperCluster, a new AI computing cluster that is used for training massive AI foundation models.
They were joined by Zhang Ping'an, executive director and CEO of Huawei Cloud; Yang Chaobin, board member and president of ICT Products & Solutions; Dang Wenshuan, chief strategy architect of Huawei; Peng Song, ICT lead of Huawei Strategy & Marketing; Seaway Zhang, president of the Computing Product Line; and, Kang Ning, president of the Huawei Cloud Global Ecosystem.
Elated by the experience, CCIS Dean Nisperos, said, “The experience truly provided us new perspectives in our drive to further advance ICT and our degree programs at MMSU.”
Her group also joined a tour in Shenzhen and Dongguan, China. They visited Huawei’s Headquarter in Shenzhen and their various exhibition halls and campuses, including the Von Neumann Exhibition Hall, University Town of Shenzhen, the All-Wireless Smart Campus, Huawei South Factory, Dongguan University of Technology, Huawei Ox Horn Campus, the Network Security Exhibition Hall, and the Huawei Cloud Plank Exhibition Hall. The visit also included exclusive meetings with Huawei executives and technical experts.
Joining the MMSU team were executives of Huawei Technologies Phils. Inc.; DICT representatives led by Undersecretary Paul Joseph V. Mercado, USec Jeffrey Ian C. Dy; and MSU-General Santos representatives led by Chancellor Usman Aragasi.
Early this year, MMSU forged a partnership with Huawei Technologies Philippines to support the university’s goal to be a smart campus.
