For its innovative efforts and relentless updating of resource materials, the Mariano Marcos State University – American Corner at the university library was recognized by the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines and American Spaces Philippines.

The MMSU-AC received four awards during the 2022 American Corners Conference organized by American Spaces Philippines held on August 25 at the Diamond Hotel in Manila.

First, MMSU-AC was awarded for having gained the second highest eLibraryUSA subscriptions among all American Corners in the Philippines from April 2020 to August 2022. It was also commended for its alumni engagement having consistently delivered effective programs with the support of the local network, particularly with its partnership with US Government Alumni Hub in the province.

The US Embassy also recognized the MMSU-AC for a successful regional collaboration by hosting a WiSci (Women in Science) Camp. (See story in https://www.mmsu.edu.ph/news/mmsu-to-hold-science-camp-for-high-school-girls-next-year)

In addition, during the American Corners Fellowship Night in August 24, MMSU-AC was given the BDO Award for persistently ‘finding ways’ in achieving the goals of the American Spaces Philippines.

Certificates of Recognition given were signed by deputy public engagement attaché Pauline Anderson of the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines.

“We are deeply honored by the recognition, and this will propel us to further heighten the productive partnership between MMSU and the U.S. Embassy,” expressed Ms. Eliza G. Villarin, director of the university library system.

“We will continue to commit to fruitful collaborations with the U.S. Embassy,” added Ms. Maria Cristeta Llacuna, AC program coordinator.

For 37 years, the MMSU-US Embassy partnership has provided funds, equipment and resources to the university; trained personnel; and introduced new trends in library and information management to ULS.

Inaugurated on January 14, 1985, the MMSU-AC is the American Space for Northern Luzon with 13 others located in strategic regions in the country.
