Mentor tops psychologist exam

A faculty member from the MMSU College of Arts and Sciences landed seventh place in the October 2019 Psychologist Licensure Examination given by the PRC.

Christine Joy C. Lim garnered a passing score of 83.50 percent which made her one of the top 10 passers and among the 205 new licensed psychologists in the country.

"I believe that it was God's grace," Lim exclaimed, thanking her family for all-out support, the MMSU administration for allowing her to extend her study leave, and her adviser for letting her take a month-long break to prepare and take the exam.

Takers of the licensure examination are required to have a master's degree and have at least 200 hours of practice in clinical psychology. The small number of examinees throughout the country every year shows that it is not easy to qualify for the exam.

Although Lim already finished her master's degree, she did not take the test yet because it was mainly on clinical psychology, and considering that her field of specialization is social and developmental psychology, thus, she needed to take the other requirements first.

As she is on study leave, Lim took the subjects related to clinical psychology in order to qualify for the licensure exam.

"I took the test this year because I believe that this is the most convenient time for me, and it might be more advantageous once we put up the psychology program at MMSU," she explained.

Lim started teaching at MMSU in 2013. Through a scholarship grant given by the CHED in 2016, she is currently on study leave for her doctorate degree in the University of the Philippines Diliman.

Lim said she wants to help the CAS Department of Social Sciences put up the psychology program as soon as she finishes her doctorate degree.
