THE COLLEGE of Business, Economics, and Accountancy again brought honor to the university when 24 of 31 examinees passed the recent Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examination  registering 77.42 percent passing rate for MMSU.

With this feat, MMSU was named third top performing school of accountancy in the Philippines, falling under Category C with 26-50 examinees.  In the past years, MMSU had been grouped under Category D (with 10-25 examinees) as the university usually had less than 25 examinees. Other top-performing institutions in this bracket are:  University of the Philippines-Diliman with 97 percent passing and University of St. La Salle, 80 percent.

The new CPAs are:  Hazeline May Joy P. Acebedo, Jeff C. Banquil, Meynard A. Calangan, Rodel C. Calapit, Abigail R. Calasag, Cherry Ann E. de la Cruz, Franklin Emiliano D. Diric, Randy C. Eugenio, Maria Jerni D. Gapas, Rowell S. Gaspar, Mark Anthony F. Juan, Maricor R. Labayan, Paolo R. Macatbag, Mylene Q. Malicad, Reymund R. Pascua, Christopher F. Paz, Marie Jane A. Ramos, Emil Adonis C. Riguis, Patrick Joseph M. Sadornas, Catherine C. Salvatierra, Brandley Jenny T. Soriano, Karen Zara D. Tadifa, John Laurel P. Uclusin, and Ramon Christopher L. Viado.

Twenty-three of the passers belonged to Class 2007 which was composed of 27 graduates. One passer was member of Batch 2006.  Two other members of Class 2007 got conditional rating.  According to CBEA Dean Lorna Olivia F. Salmasan, this year’s group of passers is so far the biggest MMSU has ever produced.

Passers from MMSU were among the 2,299 who made it to the list of new CPAs who recorded a 37 percent national passing rate.  A total of 6,213 graduates took the exam.

The oath-taking ceremonies will be held before the Board of Accountancy on Nov. 20, 1 p.m., at the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center.
