Univ upgrades student dorms

Indeed, home away from home.

MMSU student-boarders can now enjoy their new beds, new wooden cabinets, new dining tables and chairs, and a modern-looking comfort room – making their stay in the campus feel more like it is home.

This morning, February 4, university officials conducted a dedication and blessing ceremony for the newly refurbished university’s Men’s COEDS Dormitory. Ten million pesos was spent to improve the facility.

In line with the conduct of limited face-to-face classes starting next week, the dormitory will be exclusively occupied by MMSU students who have laboratory classes and those who are working on their undergraduate theses. Thirty-two rooms are now ready to accommodate 128 students, with four occupants each.

To avail, dorm applicants must have a certificate to attend in-person classes from their respective deans, acceptance letter from the barangay captain of Quiling Sur, and vaccination card. These must be submitted to Ms. Maylyn Jerez, dorm manager.

For now, dorm monthly payment is Php 300 per student. However, an increase is expected soon, upon the approval of the MMSU Board of Regents.

University President Shirley C. Agrupis said the refurbishment of the existing dormitories “is part of our goal to establish the MMSU Village where a community center and a multi-purpose site are just around the area to address the daily needs of our students.”

She hopes the university will build more accommodation facilities “because it is our dream to bring in all MMSU students who are far from the campus.”

Ms. Shiela Baquiran, accommodation chief, committed that they will discover more ways to improve the in-campus experience of MMSU dormitory occupants. She added that they are also eyeing to forward an online accommodation system.

The university president further urged the Business Directorate, Office of Student Affairs and Services, and the University Student Council to assist in the improvement of the COEDS dormitories. (StratCom)
