A professor from the Liverpool Hope University in the United Kingdom visited Mariano Marcos State University today, September 20, to explore collaborative transnational education (TNE) programs. 

Dr. Raouf Naguib, senior lecturer of the LHU School of Mathematics, Computer Science and Engineering, met with Dr. Nathaniel Alibuyog, vice president for research and extension, to discuss the offering of TNE programs meant to create more opportunities for inclusive international learning and training. They were joined by Dr. Mee Jay Domingo, director for internationalization, linkages and partnerships; Dr. Saturnina Nisperos, director for futures thinking and strategic foresight; Prof. Wilben Pagtaconan, director of information technology center; Dr. Arlene Gonzales, chief for international programs; and Prof. Krismary Sharmaine Yapo, chief for alumni relations. 

Dr. Alibuyog thanked the LHU professor for considering MMSU as potential TNE partner, and gave assurance that “we will fully embrace the innovations of delivering degree programs on a par with international standards.”

Dr. Domingo said the meeting clarified which appropriate models are feasible for both universities in offering dual doctorate degree courses, the possible fields of specialization for both universities, and their financial obligations in carrying out the programs. “Our dream is to come up with TNE programs along computer science and information technology,” he bared. 

Dr. Naguib said, “I hope that with a rich and varied menu of possibilities, we can identify something that is mutually beneficial to both our institutions which we can nurture and work on for the future, and open up new avenues for collaboration."

The Commission on Higher Education, British Council, MMSU and four other state universities and colleges have started to work out plans for new TNE programs, which is in line with the United Kingdom – Philippines TNE Partnership. MMSU President Shirley C. Agrupis said this program “will advance our internationalization efforts which will re-position us once more in the global map of innovation and excellence.” (HLY/JVBT, StratCom)
