Employees of Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) are expected to manage university documents more effectively, efficiently, and ethically after attending a three-day training on records and archives management delivered by the National Archives of the Philippines (NAP).

The university’s records management improvement committee members, records management and university manpower development staff, and records focal persons and extension coordinators participated in the virtual training on September 6-8.

The training capacitated university personnel on the salient provisions on Republic Act 9470, also known as the NAP Act of 2007, and the different concepts of archives administration and records management.

Trainers from NAP were Cheryl Alvarez, technical specialist; Jhoanna Marie Ong, records management analyst; Christin Licopit, senior records management analyst; Virginia Raymundo, chief records management analyst; Amiel Pangilinan and Michelle Ann Rose R. Zamora, archivists.

MMSU records chief Rebecca Rangcapan said the training will enable the personnel to help complete the inventory of processes of their respective units, and in preparing them for the Privacy Impact Assessment and other accreditations. The activity was collaboratively initiated by the MMSU Records Management and Archives Office, the University Manpower Development Office, and the Extension Directorate.

Dr. Oscar Agpaoa, university vice president for administration, finance and business, said this activity will help ensure that MMSU’s enormous number of records are properly classified and maintained to avoid risk of legal, accountability, and financial penalties.

The university regards records management as one of the most important functions of its offices because it promotes organizational efficiency. This forms significant part in attaining effective and efficient management in the university, one of the ACHIEVE agenda of University President Shirley C. Agrupis. (HLY/JVBT, StratCom)
