With a high 90.47 percent passing mark in the 2009 Licensure Examination for Pharmacists, the university was again recognized as one of the top performing schools in the country under category C with 31 or more examinees and with at least 80 percent passing record. One of the passers even placed seventh in the list of top examinees.
The national passing record was 56.046 percent representing 584 passers of 1.042 examinees.
Of the 63 examinees, 57 passed this year’s test giving MMSU the honor of being the number three top performing pharmacy school in the Philippines.
Madeleine Ascano Reyes from Sinait, Ilocos Sur garnered the seventh highest place with a rating of 91.07, a rating very close to those scored by other topnotchers from the University of the Philippines-Manila, the leading school of health sciences in the country.
Other schools under category C were: Saint Louis University-Baguio with 100 percent passing (36 passers of 36 examinees) – top one; and Our Lady of Fatima University-Valenzuela, 97 percent (32/31) – top two. Examinees from the two schools were a little more than the half of the examinees from MMSU. Other categories were: A – 5-15 examinees; and B –16-30 examinees where UP-Manila was the lone top-performing school with 100 percent passing mark (29 passers of 29 examinees). According to Prof. Aileen O. Camangeg, pharmacy department’s chair, categories of top-performing schools had changes this year. She said Category B with 16-30 examinees is a new category.
Of the 57 passers from MMSU, 53 were members of Class 2008 and four from previous batches. Fifty-eight of the 61 members of Class 2008 took the exam from which five did not pass. On the other hand, of the five examinees from previous batches, only one failed.
