<font style=\"font-weight: bold;\" size=\"5\">MMSU has new VPAA, VPAB<br></font>

IN A SPECIAL order dated No. 13, President Pascua designated Dr. Epifania Obrero Agustin as new vice president for academic affairs and lawyer Ramon Alejandro Leaño as new vice president for administration and business. The two, along with other new designees, took their oath before President Miriam E. Pascua during the Administrative Council’s regular meeting, Nov. 21, at the FEM Hall’s Conference Room.

Dr. Agustin replaced Dr. Nancy GB. Balantac after serving 10 years at the helm of academic affairs in the university.  She retired Nov. 11 after staying in the university for 40 years.

Agustin and Leano formally started their vice presidency last Nov. 17 until Nov. 16, 2009.

The VPAA

Prior to becoming the head of the academic affairs group in the university, Dr. Agustin was appointed director for research on June 12, 2007, the first dean of instruction in 2005, and member of the Academic Policies Review Committee and the University APEC.
She has been with the university since July 1975 starting as a research assistant she joined the academic group in 1976 as instructor. At present, she holds the rank of Professor IV.

Dr. Agustin holds a Ph.D. in Soil Water Management which she obtained in 1993 from the Reading University in Berkshire, England, United Kingdom.  She finished her M.S. in Soil Chemistry in 1995 from the University of the Philippines in Los Baños, Laguna.  She obtained her B.S. Agriculture from the Gregorio Araneta University Foundation in 1975 graduating as magna cum laude.

The VPAB

Attorney Leaño is relatively young in terms of service to the university.  He entered MMSU in November 2006 as Associate Professor I teaching legal education at CBEA. He was, at the same time, serving as legal counsel of the university. He was later appointed director for administrative services in June 2007.

Aside from his major position, he is chairman of important committees in the university such as the: Bids and Awards Committee on Goods, Supplies, Equipment, and Related Services; University Investigation Committee; University Inspection and Disposal Committee; and Non-teaching Personnel Selection and Promotion Board. He is co-chairman of the University Committee on Personnel Exchange, Sabbaticals, and Professional Visits.

He holds a Juris Doctor which he finished in 1992 from the William Mitchell College of Law in the United States.  He obtained his Bachelor of Laws from the San Beda College of Law in 1979. He is a graduate of Bachelor of Arts from the San Sebastian College.

He taught law at the Northwestern University College of Law and at the Divine Word College of Laoag.
