Founding dean of MMSU-COM appointed PRC commissioner
The founding dean of the MMSU College of Medicine has been appointed as commissioner of the Professional Regulation Commission.
With several friends and officemates, Dr. Cueto took his oath of office in a simple but meaningful ceremony before an executive judge of a regional trial court in Parañaque City last October 18.
Prior to this, his appointment was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte in Malacañang on September 19. He will join Chairman Teofilo Pilando Jr. and Commissioner Yolanda Reyes at the helm of an agency that deliberately, scientifically and consistently determines the competence of professionals through the provision of professional standards and judicious issuance of professional license.
“I believe that I was considered for the position because of my experience in the fields of professional practice, academe, research and administration. It may have helped that I already had familiarity with the policies and programs of the commission, having been a member of the Board of Medicine and coordinator for the Philippine Qualifications Framework (PQF), ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRA), and ASEAN Qualifications Reference Framework,” Dr. Cueto said.
As Commissioner, he has been given a term of seven years. He plans to contribute to the thrusts and initiatives of the PRC, especially in the registration and licensing process for graduates belonging to regulated professions, in the regulation of professionals, and in the implementation of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program. At present, the PRC serves more than 3.9 million professionals from 43 regulated professions.
Dr. Cueto served as the founding dean of the MMSU College of Medicine from April 15, 2015 to September 15, 2017 – (D. P. Tapaoan Jr.)
