Cropking Chemicals taps MMSU to study best biofertilizer for rice-based crops

A licensed distributor of quality agricultural chemicals in the Philippines tapped Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) to determine the best biofertilizer for rice-based crops.

Cropking Chemicals, Inc. based in San Juan City, Metro Manila and MMSU agreed to jointly conduct a comparative trial on the effects of different biofertilizers on lowland rice and corn. MMSU President Shirley C. Agrupis and Cropking General Manager Aaron Daniel O. Tan virtually signed the seven-page memorandum of agreement on Monday, September 12.

The two committed to effectively implement the Php 200,000-worth project, which will run until February next year.

Mr. Tan believes MMSU has the scientific and technological capability and the sense of responsibility necessary for the project.

PSCA thanked the corporation for the trust, and assured them that MMSU will fully utilize its resources to realize the research study. She added the project forms part in MMSU’s commitment to bring significant science-based technologies toward increasing farm productivity, improving natural resources management, and ensuring safer food.

The virtual MOA signing was witnessed by Dr. Nathaniel Alibuyog, MMSU vice president for research and extension; Dr. Bjorn Santos, director for research; Dr. Dionisio Bucao, director for science and technology; Ms. Noralyn Legaspi, project leader; Mr. Rodel David, Cropking district manager; and Ms. Edel Paulette Gurrero, area sales manager.

Dr. Santos said the research study particularly aims to evaluate the performance of rice and corn applied with different biofertilizers.  This will determine long-term effects and financial feasibility, thus yielding highest crop productivity.

The study will be conducted in an experimental area at the back of MMSU Crops Research Laboratory. The rice crop has been established, while corn crop planting is scheduled in November this year.

Before harvesting the crops, a field day will be held to give stakeholders an opportunity to have firsthand appreciation of the technology and products being evaluated. (HLY/JVBT, StratCom)
