Herdy Labayog Yumul, CAS social science instructor, has been appointed chief of the Print Media Section of the Communication and Media Relations Office of the university through Special Order No. 09-005 issued by President Miriam E. Pascua, Jan. 19.

Yumul has wide experience in creative writing, advertising, and journalism having worked with different companies and organizations including the office of Sen. Jamby Madrigal before he joined the academe.

He entered the university in June 2007 to teach social science courses at CAS. Before coming to MMSU, he served as instructor at the Trinity College of Quezon City and at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran.

He first worked as senior technical writer at the Office of Children’s Affairs in Malacañang, writer for Bambini Productions; copy writer for Media Advantage Communications; director for youth development of the Samahang Kakampi Foundation; then senior writer at the office of Senator Madrigal.

He said he always wanted to teach, the reason he left his previous jobs.

He never really left his passion for writing, though, as he remained very active in journalism work. At present, he edits the Sabangan, the official publication of the CAS Department of Social Sciences. He also writes a column at The Ilocos Times, a community newspaper in the province.

He is a philosophy and human resource development graduate with distinction of the San Beda College in Manila. At present, he is writing his thesis leading to an M.A. in Sociology at the University of the Philippines-Diliman.

He was valedictorian in high school at the Northern Christian College in Laoag and top ten awardee in elementary at the Divine Word College of Laoag.
