Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) hosted an information session for the Education Reform Fellowship (ERF) program of the Department of Education (DepEd) on October 22 at the MMSU Center for Learning.
The ERF is a two-year full-time government employment and leadership development program for individuals in the education and workforce development agencies. Under the program, fellows gain hands-on government service experience while building the skills, credentials, and professional networks needed to contribute to long-term education and workforce reforms.
The program was launched under the One Education initiative led by the Education and Workforce Development Group, the government’s central coordinating body for education and workforce development.
The participants, composed of students and young professionals from various higher education institutions in Region 1, learned about public sector employment, professional development, career pathways, peer networking, and opportunities to contribute to national development through government service.
Participants and representatives came from MMSU, Northwestern University-Laoag, the Schools Division of the City of Batac, St. Columban’s College of Lingayen, Pangasinan, and Philippine College of Northwestern Luzon of Agoo, La Union. They were oriented with the fellowship’s application process, career opportunities, and professional development prospects.
Prior to the information session, the delegation from the DepEd Central Office, headed by Curriculum and Fellow Management Specialist Christine Michelle Fua, paid a courtesy visit to the Office of the President. They were welcomed by Vice President for Academic Affairs Aris Reynold Cajigal.
Their discussion highlighted the MMSU’s role as a Center of Excellence and its record of producing education graduates and passers of the Licensure Examination for Teachers who contribute to the teaching profession in the region and across the country.
The activity aligns with MMSU’s SUCCEED agenda, particularly its goals of delivering quality education and developing a dynamic and holistic workforce. By connecting the university community with public service career pathways, the initiative broadens opportunities for professional growth and encourages future leaders to contribute their expertise to education reform and national development.
