PH, Int’l Agri scholars explore Ilocos Norte’s Agricultural Landscape through AAACU Summer Enrichment Program

Filipino and International agriculture scholars explored Ilocos Norte’s diverse agricultural landscape in the 2026 Asian Association of Agricultural Colleges and Universities (AAACU) Summer Enrichment Program hosted by Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) on July 27 and 28.
Over the two-day event,, the participants immersed in a comprehensive itinerary designed to showcase the best of Ilocos Norte’s agricultural landscape. The program included guided tours of strategic project sites, exposure to the province's pioneering renewable energy installations, and visits to tangible heritage sites.
Additionally, the students engaged in nature trips and various tourism activities, providing a holistic view of the region's agricultural and cultural landscape.
Headed by Dr. Amado Angeles, Dean of the College of Agricultural and Food Science at the University of the Philippines Los Baños, the cohort comprised approximately 30 agriculture undergraduates carefully selected from various member countries, including the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Korea, Indonesia, and Japan.
MMSU President Dr. Virgilio Julius P. Manzano Jr. led the university officials in greeting the delegation, emphasizing the importance of cross-border academic exchanges in addressing global food security and climate resilience.
"Our doors are always open to our partners in the AAACU as we collectively strive for excellence in sustainable agriculture," Dr. Manzano stated during the opening ceremony.
The Asian Association of Agricultural Colleges and Universities (AAACU) Summer Enrichment Program isa premier annual two-week international exchange event dedicated to undergraduate agriculture students. Running from July 20 to 31, 2026, the program was hosted by the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). Its primary goal is to broaden the global outlook of participants and facilitate the sharing of innovative knowledge in sustainable agriculture.
