GCash reg'l head: MMSU first SUC in Northern PH to integrate cashless services

Long queues and manual disbursements may soon be a thing of the past at Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU).
The university became the first state university in Northern Philippines to integrate GCash cashless services following the signing of an Implementing Agreement today, June 23, at the Imelda Cultural Center in Batac City.
The agreement enables the university to use the GCash Fund Disbursement Service for scholarship releases, employee payments, and other financial transactions, making MMSU the first public higher education institution in Northern Philippines to adopt the platform.
MMSU President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano, Jr. said the partnership supports the university's digital governance initiatives to make financial services more accessible and convenient for students and employees while implementing digital transformation across university operations.
The signing ceremony was part of the 19th Charter Day celebration of the City of Batac, where the city government, led by Mayor Mark Christian "Markee" Chua, also signed an implementing agreement with GCash and launched the GCash Citizen's ID for city residents.
With Batac becoming the first city in Northern Philippines to adopt cashless transactions for its constituents, MMSU's integration of GCash services strengthens the city's push toward digital public service and financial inclusion.
Signing the agreement were President Manzano and G-Xchange, Inc. Public Sector Head Cleo Celeste Santos. Witnessing the signing were MMSU Vice President for Administration and Finance Fides Bernardo Bitanga and Financial Management Services Director Christine Mae Piza, together with GCash officials Trisha Nell Dizon and Marvin Valdez, Public Sector Account Manager for North Luzon West.
Also present were Ilocos Norte Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos, Batac City Vice Mayor Albert Chua, members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, other city government officials, and the community members.
MMSU officials who attended the ceremony included Extension Director Marlowe Aquino, ITC Skills Development Chief Gerry Contillo, International Mobility Chief Quincy Savellano, Cash Disbursement Officer Evieh Magno, and Accountant Agatha Dawn Corpuz.
Under the agreement, MMSU will distribute free GCash cards for fund disbursement for all employees and scholars. The university and GCash are also set to introduce co-branded MMSU-GCash cards for students, faculty, and staff later this year.
Ms. Dizon said GCash is also exploring additional programs with the university as both institutions work toward expanding cashless transactions across the campus.
