The DOST Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE) Ilocos Region conducted its second Agribusiness Masterclass at the MMSU Center for Flexible Learning from June 16 to 18.
Nineteen representatives from Consortium Member Institutions (CMIs) under the Ilocos Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (ILAARRDEC) participated in the event. It was organized by the RAISE Agribusiness Hub (ABH), led by Prof. Ethel Calivoso.
During the three-day masterclass, participants engaged in learning sessions on entrepreneurial mindset development, business model innovation, organizational and operations planning, branding, marketing, enterprise accounting, and financial management.
These topics aimed to strengthen the entrepreneurial, technical, and commercialization competencies of CMIs, Technology Transfer Officers, project staff, and technology generators, enabling them to transform research-based innovations into viable agribusiness enterprises and market-ready technologies.
Representing MMSU President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano, Jr., Research Director and RAISE Ilocos Region Program Leader Dionisio Bucao delivered a message thanking the participants for joining the masterclass. He also expressed hope that the training would help participating CMIs develop their own enterprise plans.
“We are not just here to take notes. We are here so that each participating institution in this seminar can develop its own enterprise plan that is firmly anchored on a technology or product with commercial potential,” he said.
Meanwhile, RAISE ABH Program Leader Prof. Calivoso urged the participants to develop new technologies and apply them in the real world to benefit more communities.
“We hope that our participants will not only develop new technologies and innovations, but also endeavor to apply them in the real world to help more communities and improve our economy,” she shared.
The Agribusiness Masterclass is a capacity-building program that strengthens regional collaboration and technology commercialization readiness. It equips participants with skills in market validation, enterprise development, and commercialization planning to help prepare promising technologies for the market.
