“It’s the most wonderful time of the year.”
This familiar line captured the atmosphere at Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) as the campus officially ushered in the holiday season during the 2025 Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 5 at the Ferdinand E. Marcos (FEM) Hall.
Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests gathered for the unveiling of this year’s Christmas tree. Adding warmth and harmony to the evening, the MMSU Nasudi Chorale filled the venue with heartfelt renditions of Christmas carols.
MMSU President Virgilio Julius Manzano, Jr., led the official countdown to the lighting of the university Christmas tree. “Let’s all become a beacon of hope, as every small light that we will share for MMSU can conquer darkness, because it symbolizes how our optimism can turn everything around,” he enthused.
Faculty Association, Inc. (FAI) President Prof. Rex Belli Alejandro extended his wishes for a season grounded in unity and gratitude, highlighting the enduring values of hope, generosity, and community.
Association of Non-Teaching Administrative Personnel (ANTAP) President Dr. Ronald Garalde shared his message of hope and inspiration. “The lighting of our Christmas tree reflects the huge and great things the university has accomplished,” he said, reminding everyone to carry forward the spirit of excellence and service as one community.
University Student Council President Edriane Gerby Maloom also offered warm holiday greetings to fellow students. “May we not only celebrate Christmas and New Year; let’s also celebrate our efforts in surviving the semester,” he stated.
In his closing message, College of Veterinary Medicine Dean Melvin Bagot emphasized the importance of moving forward as one community and allowing the spirit of love and togetherness to guide the season’s celebrations.
Set against the FEM Park backdrop, this year’s Christmas tree stands as a symbol of unity and cultural identity, crafted from amakan and bamboo, designed with eight layers representing the 8th MMSU Administration, grounded by a belén motif, and crowned with a guiding star. Its Ilokano-inspired weaving and rich symbolism reflect the university’s faith, heritage, and shared commitment to moving forward together.
