Econ students bag top award in nat’l pitching tilt

Economics students of the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) bagged first place in the Pitching Competition during the National Business Economics Congress (NBEC) held at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) on November 26.
The MMSU Economics Society’s team, Golden Grain Guild, composed of junior BS Economics students Ralph Lauren Gaquit, Natasha Sarandi, Jennifer Diego, and April Anne Balucio, emerged as the champion with their proposal, “AI-Sulong Kababaihan MicroBiz.”
Their winning project focused on women empowerment, particularly supporting mothers in gaining digital skills and leveraging AI-driven solutions to bridge the digital gap in the informal economy.
Themed “Inclusive Technological Transformation for a Resilient and Future-Ready Philippine Economy,” the event highlighted digital innovation and economic resilience in the Philippines. This year’s discussions emphasized affordable internet access through the Konektadong Pinoy Act, the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its economic implications, and other related topics.
