Six faculty members from the Automotive Technology Department of the Mariano Marcos State University–College of Industrial Technology (MMSU-CIT) joined the 13th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS) on October 23-24 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex.
Prof. Ferdinand Huenda, Prof. Ruel Peralta, Prof. William Bermudez, Mr. Jeferson Miranda, Mr. Marc Jenc Salvador, and Mr. Larmy Genesis Ubasa of MMSU-CIT attended the summit aimed to enrich the knowledge and experience of participants on the new EV-related technologies and to gear automotive technology education toward the nation’s sustainable mobility programs.
Themed “Charge Ahead, Ignite the Evolution,” the 13th PEVS serves as the country’s premier market accelerator for people-to-vehicle communication worldwide toward environmentally friendly, smarter, and more sustainable transportation. The conference was hosted by the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP), and the representative assembly of local and international manufacturers, including brands such as BYD, GAC, Omoda & Jaecoo, and UAAGI, demonstrated the innovations pushing the e-mobility trend.
Energy Utilization and Management Bureau Director Patrick Aquino presented the national level need for stronger partnerships among government, industry stakeholders, and consumers to fast-track the adoption of EV nationwide. He underscored the significance of unified efforts as a requirement in the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA) implementation, charging station network expansion, and the movement towards a connected mobility environment.
MMSU’s attendance to the summit yielded two significant developments aligned with the institution's forward-looking direction. First, MMSU is set to engage with the Department of Energy (DOE) after the agency initiated the donation of two (2) units of electric vehicle charging stations. These charging stations are expected to serve as an income-generating project for the university or support other institutional initiatives.
Moreover, Bosch Service Center is set to partner with the university in strengthening student immersion opportunities. The collaboration will offer MMSU automotive technology students practical and hands-on training aligned with industry standards.
The MMSU CIT Automotive Technology Department is currently drafting a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to formalize this partnership.
The participation of MMSU Automotive Technology faculty members demonstrates the university’s commitment to integrating green automotive innovations into education, research, and industry collaboration. These efforts ensure that future technologists are well-prepared to contribute to the Philippines’ transition to greener, smarter, and more sustainable transportation systems.
