Japanese investors and Green Carbon Inc. visit MMSU for AWD project
Japanese investors, together with delegates from Green Carbon Inc., a Japan-based firm and a subsidiary of Verde Carbon Capture, Inc. (VCCI), visited MMSU on November 17 to discuss the project titled โ๐๐ฆ๐ต๐ฉ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฆ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ช๐ด๐ด๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ด ๐ง๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฎ ๐ณ๐ช๐ค๐ฆ ๐ค๐ถ๐ญ๐ต๐ช๐ท๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ ๐ด๐บ๐ด๐ต๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ด ๐ถ๐ต๐ช๐ญ๐ช๐ป๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐ข๐ญ๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฏ๐ข๐ต๐ฆ ๐ธ๐ฆ๐ต๐ต๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ฅ๐ณ๐บ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ (๐๐๐) ๐ช๐ฏ ๐๐ญ๐ฐ๐ค๐ฐ๐ด ๐๐ฐ๐ณ๐ต๐ฆ,โ with University President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano, Jr.
The VCCI delegation, composed of Project Coordinator Mclean Garcia, Ms. Kato Hazuki, and Mr. Godwin Blanco, led the discussion with MMSU AWD project staff Dr. Janet Villamor, Dr. Dinah Marie Dayag, and Dr. Cristina Valentin.
Japanese investors from Marubeni Corporation, a global trading and investment company operating across industries such as food, energy, infrastructure, mobility, and business development, included Mr. Akihiro Nakahara, Mr. Yuta Shoji, Mr. Shuhei Uenishi, and Mr. Keita Takeshita. Joining them were Japanese investors from Osaka Gas, Dr. Hiroki Tanaka and Mr. Kenta Kamizono.
The investors expressed their excitement for the projectโs implementation and thanked the university for the opportunity to contribute to initiatives that help local farmers and communities.
Currently, most farmers rely on continuous flooding irrigation systems. The AWD technology offers farmers a water-saving alternative that reduces their irrigation consumption in rice fields without compromising yield, helping improve farmersโ productivity and supporting environmental sustainability by decreasing greenhouse gas emissions and generating carbon credits.
The AWD project focuses on accounting for methane emissions from lowland rice production and determining reductions achieved through AWD using the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) between the Japanese and Philippine Governments.
In June this year, VCCI officials visited President Manzano to discuss collaboration opportunities between the university in advancing technologies for irrigated rice production.
The partnership between VCCI, MMSU, and the Japanese investors reaffirms the commitment of the university to sustainable agriculture and community development. (๐๐๐)
