Mr. Carl Zhan Jazpher Gines, a first-year sociology student of MMSU College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), joined the International Youth Exchange Program (IYEP) of the Japanese Red Cross Society (JRCS) held in Tokyo, Japan, from October 23 to November 3.
Currently serving as the Vice President for Internal Affairs of the Philippine Red Cross - Ilocos Norte Chapter Youth Council, Mr. Gines was one of only two delegates from the Philippine Red Cross who participated in the program.
Anchored on the theme “Think Globally, Act Locally,” the IYEP aimed to promote mutual understanding and facilitate the exchange of ideas among youth leaders, with a focus on pressing global concerns such as climate change and humanitarian crises.
During the program, Mr. Gines and other international delegates visited local Japanese Red Cross Chapters and Junior Red Cross schools, participated in a homestay immersion to experience Japanese culture and lifestyles, and engaged in discussions and learning sessions.
The IYEP brought together youth from various countries for cultural exchange, leadership development, and international collaboration, and it served as a platform for young leaders across the world to share ideas, culture, and advocacy in building stronger communities and fostering international friendship. The program equipped delegates to cultivate leadership in their respective countries and communities and become agents of change.
The participation of Mr. Gines in the IYEP strengthens the university’s commitment to sustainable partnerships with other institutions, reinforces global engagement for academic growth, and highlights the capability and global potential of the Filipino youth.
